About Company

Empowering Artists, Inspiring Communities

Fstop Club SA is a photography and zine-making company based in South Africa. The company is composed of visual artists Nathi Khumalo, Siphosihle Mkhwanazi, and Sipho Gongxeka. F Stop Club SA is dedicated to producing various exhibitions and programming, which includes workshops and training sessions.

At its core, F Stop Club SA is a collective of visual artists who are passionate about DIY self-publishing through the creation of zines. They believe that in the context of South African visual culture, providing a platform for artists to produce their own work is crucial for sustaining their practice. This approach empowers artists to create and distribute their work independently, bypassing traditional barriers such as gallery representation and artist management.

Recognizing the challenges faced by emerging visual artists in gaining recognition and accessing opportunities within the market, F Stop Club SA aims to provide support through workshops, master classes, and networking sessions. These initiatives are designed to equip artists with the skills and connections necessary to navigate the art world more effectively and establish themselves within it.

Overall, F Stop Club SA serves as both a creative collective and a supportive resource for visual artists in South Africa, fostering a community-driven approach to artistic expression and professional development.

Light Years Project: Empowering South African Photographers

About the Light Years Project

Illuminate Communities: The Light Years Project

The Light Years Project is a specialized photography training initiative aimed at empowering emerging and independent photographers in specific provinces of South Africa. Our primary objective is to enhance the capacity and skills of these photographers while leveraging photography as a means to foster social cohesion within communities.

Participants in the project will benefit from intensive blended learning workshops facilitated by industry practitioners. These workshops will cover various aspects of photography, including ancillary topics such as Zine Design, Narrative Development, Multimedia Design, Augmented Reality, Branding, and Marketing. Through these sessions, participants will have the opportunity to develop a cohesive body of work.

The outcomes of the program are intended to be showcased through immersive public traveling exhibitions. These events will invite local community members to engage with the published works, which will include zines, posters, and photographs embedded with Augmented Reality elements. This approach not only highlights the artistic achievements of the participants but also encourages community involvement and interaction with the creative output.

The project is made possible through sponsorship from the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture, specifically through the PEPS (Public Art and Design Programme) initiative, as well as support from Business Arts South Africa. This backing underscores the significance of the initiative in promoting artistic development and community engagement through photography.
